Xroads Cafe Marks First Year with All-Day Community Celebration on June 29

Anniversary Party Details

The converted storage space behind an (mostly) unmarked door at 119 Knickerbocker Avenue will open wide on Sunday, June 29, as Xroads Cafe celebrates its first anniversary with an eight-hour celebration featuring an outdoor vendor market, DJ sets, and what owner Myk Tummolo calls “a really big community day.”

The anniversary party runs from noon to 8PM, with music by 2Melo and surprise guests, an outdoor vendor market in the cafe’s garden space, and coffee and food specials showcasing the hyperlocal network of suppliers that has become the cafe’s signature.

Bushwick Coffee Shop Hosts Weekly Dance and Music Events

“I would love to see this (Xroads) being this neighborhood for the next decades or more,” Tummolo said in a recent interview, reflecting on the cafe’s first year. The former underground party promoter opened XRoads in June 2024 after breaking his foot and being unable to walk for five months during the launch period.

The anniversary party represents a milestone for a space that has quietly become a cultural hub in a rapidly changing Bushwick. Behind its hidden entrance—accessible through what regulars call a “secret portal”—the cafe hosts free salsa dancing on Thursdays, Silent Reading Monday nights, and live DJs on Sundays.

Tummolo, whose family has roots in Bushwick dating back to his great-grandmother (who worked as a seamstress in the neighborhood’s garment warehouses and lived to 108), sees the cafe as more than a coffee shop. “It’s not a bar, not a club. It’s a third space concept,” he explained. “It’s not your home, it’s not your job. But people come here to converge.”

The vendor market will feature local businesses from the neighborhood.

Crossroads Cafe Brooklyn Expanding Hours with Wine and Beer License

Currently operating with coffee and food service, Xroads is in the process of obtaining wine and beer licenses, with plans to extend hours until 2AM on weekends and add a tapas menu. A full liquor license is also in the works, part of Tummolo’s vision for “Xroads Cafe by day, and a different kind of vibe by night.”

The anniversary celebration comes as Bushwick experiences what Tummolo describes as a “post-pandemic renaissance” in nightlife and cultural offerings. From massive venues like Brooklyn Mirage, 99 Scott and Terminal to intimate spaces like Xroads, the neighborhood continues to evolve its entertainment landscape.

For those seeking the cafe on non-anniversary days, look for the unmarked entrance, part of what Tummolo says keeps the space feeling special. “Some don’t even know this place is here,” he noted. On June 29, however, the secret will be out, with coffee specials, food offerings, and activities for all ages marking a year of quiet community building in the heart of Bushwick.

The anniversary party requires no tickets but you can RSVP for free here. Crossroads Cafe is located at 119 Knickerbocker Avenue, Brooklyn.
